New Era of Translation Software

There was a time when sending a message across the world meant months of waiting as a piece of paper was carried by horseback or ship. Now, basic technology found in homes across the world and carried in our pockets allows us to instantly communicate to the far-flung corners of the earth. This astonishing technological advance comes with the pitfall that, while we might be able to send the messages, the language barrier can prevent them from being understood. Fortunately, online translation software allows everyday users to translate their chat messages and emails without learning an entirely new language.

Ortsbo - Great Translation Tool

The process of online translation is relatively simple. A program like Yahoo's Babel Fish provides you with a small window into which you paste your text. You select the language you want to translate into and the program gives you a translated version. Of course, while this is useful for translating something like an email, much of communication happens in real time. What if you want to chat on Facebook with someone in Germany that speaks very little English? That's where a program like Ortsbo really shines.

Designed to be a real-time chat translation tool, Ortsbo offers instant translation for over fifty languages. To use the program from your computer, you go to the Ortsbo site and click launch on the homepage. You'll be provided with a list of chat programs from which you can choose. You sign into the program you want to use, such as Google Chat, directly from the Ortsbo site using your normal username and password. You'll also select your preferred language, which determines in what language you read your messages.

Ortsbo is free translation software loads your friends list and opens a standard chat window. What's not standard is that you receive messages in your language of preference, whether the person on the other end is writing in German, Chinese, Icelandic or any of the other supported languages. The person on the other end receives your messages in their preferred language. While no translation software is a replacement for a professional translator, a program like Ortsbo allows you to have a real conversation with someone that doesn't speak your native language.

The other place where Ortsbo stands out next to other free translation software is in its range of options. In addition to using the program directly from the Ortsbo site for chat, there are mobile apps for the iPhone, iPad, and Android phones. You can even translate an email and send it straight from the Ortsbo site. For the tech wary, there is also an ever growing list of video tutorials that show you how to use the translation program with a variety of different services. If learning another language isn't high on your to-do list, but communicating with people that speak a foreign language is, than it's time to take a look at Ortsbo.
